Draw a pressure vessel head to scale and get its key figures. Choose the profile (DIN 28011 Klöpper, DIN 28013 Korbbogen, ASME flanged and dished, 2:1 ellipsoidal, hemispherical, or a custom torispherical with your own radii), enter the diameter, thickness and straight flange, and the tool draws a dimensioned section and plan view on a drawing sheet with the dish depth, overall height, inside volume, surface area and approximate weight.
What it gives you
- Dimensioned section view with OD, ID, dish depth, straight flange, overall height, crown and knuckle radii
- Plan view with section arrows
- Inside volume including the straight flange, surface area and weight
- DIN empirical depth alongside the geometric depth for Klöpper and Korbbogen heads
- DXF export of the true 1:1 profile with real arc entities, plus SVG and PDF
Method and standards
The profile is built from the crown radius and knuckle radius of the chosen standard applied to the selected diameter basis, outside or inside. Depth follows from that geometry; for DIN heads the standard's empirical formula is shown for comparison. Volume and surface area are integrated numerically from the profile. The tool does not calculate required thickness: that is a code calculation to ASME VIII, EN 13445 or PD 5500.
How to use it
- Choose the head type and the diameter basis.
- Enter diameter, thickness, straight flange and material.
- Download the DXF profile for CAD or print the sheet.
Questions engineers ask
- Why do the geometric and DIN depths differ?
- DIN 28011 and 28013 give empirical depth formulas that include a thickness term. Pure outside-radius geometry does not, so the two differ by a few millimetres. Both are shown; the head manufacturer's data governs.
- Is the DXF at true scale?
- Yes. It is the section profile in millimetres at 1:1 with the crown and knuckle as arc entities, on separate layers for outline, centreline and dimensions.
- Does it size the head for pressure?
- No. It is a geometry and drawing tool. Required thickness needs a code calculation, which Forgepoint can provide.
