Look up the properties engineers need most for 41 common grades: density, elastic modulus, Poisson's ratio, minimum yield or proof strength, tensile strength, elongation, thermal expansion, thermal conductivity, specific heat, melting range, service temperature guide and hardness, with equivalents across EN, ASTM and UNS designations and practical notes on weldability and use.
What it gives you
- Structural and pressure steels: S235, S275, S355, S460, A36, A105, A350 LF2, A516, P265GH, P355GH, 16Mo3, 13CrMo4-5
- Stainless and duplex: 304, 304L, 316, 316L, 321, 347, 310S, 2205, 2507, 254 SMO
- Aluminium 6082, 6061, 5083, 1050A, 7075; titanium grades 2 and 5; Inconel 625; Hastelloy C-276
- Copper, brass, grey and ductile cast iron
- PTFE, PEEK, nylon, acetal, HDPE and PVC-U
- Search by grade, EN number or UNS, sort any column, compare three side by side
Method and standards
Strength values are the minimum specified for the thinnest common product form of the grade; physical properties are typical room-temperature handbook values. Properties vary with product form, thickness, temper, heat treatment and temperature, so for design use take values from the governing standard at the design temperature and from the mill certificate for the actual material.
How to use it
- Search or filter by family.
- Click a row to open its full card; open up to three to compare.
- Sort by any column to rank, for example, by yield strength.
Questions engineers ask
- Are these design values?
- No. They are reference values for comparison and preliminary work. Design values come from the material standard at temperature and the mill certificate.
- Why is the yield lower for 304L than 304?
- The low-carbon L grades give up a little strength for weldability and freedom from sensitisation; the specified minimums reflect that.
- Can more grades be added?
- Yes. Call or text with the grades you use most and they can be added.
