Forgepoint produces structured engineering calculation packages to justify a design, advise on one, or support a submission to a client, insurer or regulator. Each package states the assumptions, loads and code clauses, shows the calculation with units, and ends with a clear pass/fail statement and recommendations, so that another engineer can check it and a non-engineer can see the conclusion.
Packages are produced by mechanical engineers with IMechE-accredited postgraduate qualifications and long industrial experience across fabrication, HVAC, automation, ATEX and capital projects. They are used for structural steelwork, lifting equipment, pressure equipment, thermal and fluid systems, machinery and independent review, and can be backed by FEA where hand methods do not reach.
What's included
- Structural checks for platforms, frames, supports and brackets to Eurocode 3
- Lifting equipment and lifting points to BS EN 13155 and LOLER
- Pressure equipment calculations to PD 5500, EN 13445 and ASME VIII
- Pipework stress, flexibility and support spacing to ASME B31.3 and EN 13480
- Thermal calculations: heat loss, insulation, heat exchanger duty, psychrometrics
- Fluid calculations: pump and fan duty, pipe sizing and pressure drop, relief sizing
- Bolted joint and weld strength
- Independent checks of calculations by others, with a written opinion for insurance or dispute
How it works
- Send the drawings, loads and the question the package needs to answer.
- We agree the scope, codes and format, and quote a fixed price.
- The package is calculated, checked by a second engineer and issued as a PDF with native files if wanted.
- A design review call walks you through the conclusions and any changes recommended.
Sectors and standards
Sectors: Process plant, food and pharmaceutical, HVAC and building services, manufacturing and automation, construction steelwork, lifting and handling, and expert witness support.
Standards we work to: BS EN 1993 (Eurocode 3), BS EN 13155, LOLER 1998, PD 5500, EN 13445, ASME VIII, ASME B31.3, EN 13480, EN 13445-3, ISO 12241, BS EN 1993-1-8 and AISC 360 for welds, VDI 2230 for bolted joints.
Pricing
Defined projects are quoted as a fixed price after we have seen the brief, so you know the cost before work starts. Open-ended or hourly work is charged from £59 per hour, billed monthly or per engagement. Every enquiry starts with a free consultation: call or text, tell us what you are working on, and you get an honest steer with no obligation.
Questions we are asked
- What format do calculation packages come in?
- A PDF with a title block, revision history, assumptions, references, the calculations with units, and a conclusions page. Spreadsheets or Mathcad files can be supplied alongside where the client wants to re-run them.
- Can a package be used for an insurance claim or dispute?
- Yes. Independent engineering opinion in formal report format is one of the things we are asked for most, and it is written to be read by non-engineers as well as reviewed by engineers.
- How long does a package take?
- A single structural or lifting check is often a day. Pressure equipment and multi-load-case packages take longer. We quote a fixed price and a delivery date up front.
- Do you use the free calculators on this site?
- The tools on this site are prototypes for quick reference. Packages we issue are calculated and checked independently, with the code clauses cited.
