Forgepoint designs pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, receivers and pressure pipework components to the codes UK fabricators and their clients work to: PD 5500, EN 13445 and ASME VIII. We take the work from the process conditions through the code calculations to the general arrangement and fabrication drawings, with the calculation pack and design documentation needed for PED, UKCA and CE marking.

The design is done by mechanical engineers who also carry out FEA, so design-by-analysis is available where the rules do not cover the geometry, and who prepare fabrication drawings, so what is calculated is what gets built. We work with fabricators, end users and notified bodies across the North West and the UK.

What's included

How it works

  1. Tell us the fluid, pressure, temperature, size and any client specification.
  2. We confirm the code, category and conformity route and give a fixed price.
  3. Calculations, drawings and documentation are produced and checked, with a design review meeting before issue.
  4. We support the fabricator and the notified body through manufacture, testing and certification.

Sectors and standards

Sectors: Process and chemical plant, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, water treatment, compressed air and gas, hydrogen and CCUS, HVAC and refrigeration, and heat transfer equipment.

Standards we work to: PD 5500, EN 13445-1 to -5, ASME VIII Division 1 and 2, ASME B16.5 and EN 1092-1 flanges, ASME B31.3 and EN 13480 piping, Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 (UKCA) and the PED 2014/68/EU (CE).

Pricing

Defined projects are quoted as a fixed price after we have seen the brief, so you know the cost before work starts. Open-ended or hourly work is charged from £59 per hour, billed monthly or per engagement. Every enquiry starts with a free consultation: call or text, tell us what you are working on, and you get an honest steer with no obligation.

Questions we are asked

Which code should my vessel be designed to?
Usually the one the client, insurer or existing site standard specifies. In the UK, PD 5500 and EN 13445 are both accepted under the Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulations; ASME VIII is common for oil and gas and for equipment that will be exported. We will advise if you are free to choose.
Can you handle the PED / UKCA paperwork?
Yes. We prepare the design documentation, categorise the equipment, identify the conformity assessment module and support the notified body review.
Do you make the vessel?
No. We design it and can connect you with fabricators from our network, or work with yours. We do not sell equipment or take a margin on manufacture.
What if my vessel is non-standard?
That is where design by analysis comes in. FEA to ASME VIII Division 2 or EN 13445 Annex B lets us justify geometry the rules cannot cover, with a full calculation record.
